And How I Style My Clothes To Boost My Confidence

When I feel like shit, I tend to dress like shit…

Oversized hoodies, 2 day old leggings, my slides and day 5 unwashed hair (or is it 6? I don’t know, I’ve lost count). But I thank the God’s above for dry shampoo.

It’s always a tale-tell sign that I need to work on my self-care and prioritize how I show up everyday. Especially when I start to slip and not put effort into my appearance.

I know myself. I know that when I focus on showing up looking my best – my moods and confidence get a boost. A fresh air feeling of: “Oh that’s right, I am a bad ass and I DO know how to look good.”

I don’t believe in dressing up for attention of others. But fuck it feels good when my husband gives me a compliment on how I look for the day. It never fails, he ALWAYS comments when I put myself together. And that just adds to the pep-in-my-step that I’m carrying around all day.

I also appreciate showing up to my kids’ school, events or appointments looking my best. I like when they take pride in their momma.

When you put on that cute outfit and look in the mirror, you see someone different. And in an instant you start feeling like a different person as well.

So let this be a post about finding your power in putting yourself together. Let this inspire you to own your appearance by elevating your style with confidence.

My signature color is black. It goes with anything – year around. And when I think about the foundational staples in my closet, I go straight to my high waisted, wide leg trousers.

It was 97 degrees in Austin yesterday and I paired them with this black lightweight sheer top and black platform sneakers. Casual, but chic. And to elevate this outfit even more, I accessorized with these black frame glasses. You can get them with prescription lenses or non-prescription.

It isn’t just a color; it’s a whole ass attitude.

It never goes out of style. It’s the ultimate symbol of sophistication, power and rebellion, all rolled into one. You can go out with your girlfriends, date night with your partner, in the office, running errands – black always delivers!

Versatile. Edgy. Flattering. Timeless. Trendy.

There’s a reason the Little Black Dress is iconic – it creates a sleek silhouette, no matter your body type. You instantly look polished and put together.

When I throw on something edgy, I instantly feel confident. I walk with my chin higher and I strut a little different. I’m not afraid to walk into a room. CONFIDENCE.

You just need a few staple pieces, with a mix of textures. Think leather, satin, denim, cashmere, gunmetal and velvet. There are endless ideas for putting together a remarkable outfit.

I hand selected some staples in my own closet and linked them for you below:

  1. Black leather skirt/skort
  2. Black high rise denim skinny jeans
  3. Black wide leg jeans
  4. Black leather pants
  5. Black t-shirt
  6. Black bodysuit
  7. Black cardigan
  8. Black trousers
  9. Black belt
  10. Black boots

My FAVORITE shops for finding edgy black clothing is: Asos, Lulus, Amazon, Revolve and Marcella NYC. I also like supporting small businesses on Etsy or IG.

It’s time to say “goodbye” to oversized hoodies and leggings everyday. And hello to “I want to feel hot as shit today”.

The most important thing to remember when you’re finding your fashion style is that it is all about YOU. What you like. What you feel good in. And how it impacts your confidence.

Happy shopping! 🖤
